_Ancestral Hungers_ by Scott Baker is, rather surprisingly, an interesting and well-done vampire story. A snake handler's wife dies from a snake bite. After her death, the snake handler drives off with no particular purpose in mind. On the way, he picks up a mysterious female hitchhiker, who leads him to his family and his previously unknown vampire heritage. This book is a blend of new vampiric lore and the mythology of snake worship lushly and sensually presented. Recommended for who like horror in the style of Anne Rice.
