_Black Wine_ by Candas Jane Dorsey is a complex piece of what has
been labeled "feminist fantasy" involving several generations of
women in the same royal family. The stories of each are interwoven
and vague enough throughout the book that you find yourself asking
which woman is which at given points in the story, or whether or
not all are simply the same woman in different stages of her life.
The tone of the book is dreamlike, and like so much of current
feminist literature, contains more than casual mention of
lesbianism. I thought it was kind of neat because of the
plot complexity and it's a pretty good read, but I'm not sure
I'd recommend it too highly.
