_Deadly Feasts: Tracking the Secrets of a Terrifying New Plague_ by Richard Rhodes is an excellent look at the group of diseases which include Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (CJD), kuru and BSE (more commonly known as Mad Cow disease). The book is an engrossing look at how the cause of kuru was determined and its later links to scrapie, Mad Cow disease and CJD.

The book tends to become sensationalist at times, but it helps keep it interesting. This novel is not nearly as technical as other of Rhodes' book were and is a fast, engrossing read. Highly recommended for those with an interest in the subject.
