I wasn't terribly crazy about _Desmodus_ by Melanie Tem. It's a moderately readable story about a modern vampire colony, but it seemed to be a little flat. The story involves a matriarchal group of vampires who must migrate (in a caravan consisting of various cars, trucks and semis) between two compounds. The male vampires are slow, dumb, and almost helpless without the females (well okay, maybe it's not such a bad book after all :) ). One of the males finds out a horrible secret about his colony and tries to save an innocent baby vampire from it. The best I can say about this book is that it's at the very least an original treatment of modern vampires.
