_Endymion_ by Dan Simmons is a worthy continuation to the Hyperion saga. The story takes place long after the pilgrimage to Hyperion and involves the daughter of one of the original pilgrims. A former shepherd named Raul Endymion becomes her protector, even though it seems that the rest of the galaxy is trying to capture or kill her. Excellent science fiction, however my only beef is the "cliffhanger" ending. The entire Hyperion saga is highly recommended.
