_Escape Velocity: Cyberculture at the End of the Century_ by Mark Dery is a surprisingly good overview of the various influences on the current cyberculture. Dery covers widely ranging topics such as performance artists, cyberpunk music/books and body modification. Detailed descriptions of various influences on cyberculture cover the Survival Research Laboratories to H.R. Giger to J.G. Ballard. All in all, an interesting read and a fairly good primer on cyberculture. Recommended as a signpost of where we are and where we might be going.
