There seems to be a lot of fuss about _Fool's War_ by Sarah Zettel. A professional Fool, who serves the equivalent of ST:TNG's ship's counselor but is more entertaining, is assigned to a spaceship which is unknowingly carrying a rogue AI program. The Fool finds herself involved in a high-tech, high-stakes battle of life and death. If you liked Gibson's _Neuromancer_, you'll probably like _Fool's War_. There's lots of action and cyberstuff. People are raving about it, but as I've always been on the high side of lukewarm about Gibson's books, and this is just like one of his books...
