The family's matriarch, Wishing for her children to be more "special," (the more special the individual, the more money earned as a circus freak) allowed her husband to create a series of regimens during her pregnancy to insure that her children would have drastic birth defects. The narrator of the story is one of the daughters, who is not special enough to bring in much money because she is only an albino hunchback. She tells the tragic story of her family in an often heart- rending way which makes her narrative all the more horrifying. Highly recommended for those who don't mind disturbing and unusual fiction.
