Animated dead bodies, little men and severed heads abound in _Homunculus_ by James P. Blaylock, a light horror/fantasy novel set in Victorian England. What do flying saucers have to do with homunculi and proper Victorian gentlemen? Beats me, but all those elements are here.

Everyone seems to be rushing to find the contents of several boxes, including Victorian men of leisure, resurrectionists and evil businessmen. Throw in a few dead carp, and voila! you have _Homunculus_. Recommended for lovers of fantasy in the vein of Tim Powers.
